STAFDA's White Hot Night
The desert heat and Vegas cool will come together at the MGM Grand arena for STAFDA's White Hot Night opening party and concert, Monday, Nov. 13 — kicking off the 30th annual convention and trade show (Nov. 13-15 in Las Vegas).
Attendees will enter the arena through a white tunnel into a blizzard of activity featuring living alabaster statues, white chocolate martini girls and ivory-clad acrobats.
As they work their way through the 90-minute party, attendees can have their handwriting analyzed, look into the future with a Tarot card reader or have caricatures drawn. There will be numerous chances to sit down at snowy table settings for a bite to eat or stop at an ice bar for a drink. A variety of sumptuous food stations will be available throughout the three levels of the arena.
And that's not all!
Vegas cool wouldn't be complete without the original denizens of hip — the Rat Pack. Frank, Dean and Sammy will be live on stage performing their hits and squaring off with each other as only they can. See the witty repartee that made Sinatra, Martin and Davis icons of the era, and of Vegas. And who knows, perhaps there will be an Elvis sighting.
Then it's time to boogie as members enjoy a 75-minute concert featuring the Brian Setzer Orchestra. Setzer, well known for his hits in the ‘80s with the Stray Cats, and a three-time Grammy Award winner, now fronts an 18-piece orchestra. His rockabilly guitar has turned the Big Band sound on its ear. Setzer was scheduled to perform during our 2004 Convention in San Francisco when he was sidelined with hearing difficulties. Now that those have been resolved, he and his management wanted to plan a concert for STAFDA this year in Las Vegas. His recent CD, Rockabilly Riot, was selected one of the best albums of 2005 and pays homage to Elvis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins. His high-octane hits like Jump, Jive, & Wail, Hot Rod Girl, and Dirty Boogie will have attendees up on their feet. Setzer and his orchestra mix their interests with American culture and music to combine the sounds of rockabilly and Glenn Miller..
