Irwin introduces laser saw guide
Laser technology is hot throughout the industry, and now existing miter saws can be outfitted with laser sighting systems to improve their accuracy. The guide from Irwin replaces the outside washer on a miter saw and projects a laser guideline on the cutting surface. Irwin estimates that more than 1.5 million miter saws are sold each year without laser guides, and that this tool will be welcome within the ranks of daily users. Designed to be retrofit to existing saws it has an automatic on/off switch — activated when the saw spins over 400 rpm. The guide fits all 8 1/4-, 8 1/2-, 10- and 12-inch miter saws (except those made by Bosch, Rigid and Protech).
Porter-Cable combo kits for blades
Combo kits for tools are popular throughout the market, and packaging a working combination of bits and blades to keep them going is also coming on strong. There were five new router bit sets on display, each with Monster Carbide composition. They also have Pozi-Stop, an automatic depth-setting system that reduces setup time. There's a laminate trim set, a groove and trim set, a straight set, a decorative edging set and a 10-piece master woodworker set.
