Les Ireland, corporate vice president and president of commercial operations -- industrial products group for power tools and accessories -- at Black & Decker will present the annual overview look at the state of the industry at the 33rd annual convention of the Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association (STAFDA) at the general session Monday, Nov. 9. He assumed his recent position with the company after heading its European operation. He has also held a similar position with its DeWalt power tool and accessories division.
Herman Cain, former chairman of Godfather's Pizza and current business commentator for FOX News, will also speak to members gathering in Atlanta on Monday, Nov. 9 -- making a return trip to the podium after a similar assignment at the group's 1997 convention.
Cain will discuss, among other things, removing obstacles to success and leading the actions it takes to inspire extraordinary achievement.
"You can't motivate people -- people motivate themselves," he says. "Leaders must identify and remove the obstacles that keep people from being self-motivated."
Cain's leadership skills are legendary after he took an ailing pizza company and turned it into a national giant. Currently, in his role as radio commentator, talk show host and author, he has been called "a new voice for common sense."
Participation in the annual STAFDA event is limited to members only. Registration is available on the STAFDA website, www.stafda.org, beginning June 28.
